About Bob

Robert Ossem Hagan ( aka “Awesome Bob”), has been a professional entertainer for over 50 years and has lived in Sequim since April, 2011. He sang to his first filled auditorium when he was five years old and was a paid professional by age thirteen.

Born in Seattle, Bob’s family moved to Juneau, Alaska in 1963 where he won the National Arion Award for music while still in high school. He was the band president, the first Student Band Director and Director of the Pep Band, and was the chosen soloist for all of the Southeastern Alaska Music Festivals in competion with all Southeastern Alaska high schools.

In 1966 he formed a group from his pep band called “The Candid Eight” and toured Alaska as Governor Egan’s campaign band. This resulted in personal letters of recommendation to audition for the Navy School of Music from both Governor Egan and Brigadier General Elmore, then in charge of all the armed forces of Alaska. Bob toured with the Navy Bands in California, Florida, Hawaii, Japan, the Philippines and Vietnam over the following four years.

In 1971 he began working full time as a professional civilian entertainer which he continues to do to this day. With his training from the Navy School of Music, Bob taught himself to play bass, drums, harmonica and keyboards, and has performed from Florida to Alaska to Canada with his own bands. He has backed many famous artists such as Bob Hope, Natalie Cole, Percy Sledge and Nancy Wilson, Bertie Higgins and famous blues legend Sonny Boy Williamson. He has also performed with the Navy for Presidents Johnson and Nixon. He wrote the theme song “Do The Same” for the National Blood Donor’s Association in 1984. and performed the commercial nationally on television with General Hospital star Jackie Zeman. In the 1980’s he competed against thousands of groups to get on the Nashville Network Television’s “You Can Be A Star” competition in Nashville Tennessee, and won praise and perfect scores from the singer/songwriter judges, including Dottie West. He wrote and performed his own songs for the show and is a published songwriter.
